pumps used, oxygen-depleted blood from your body back into your lungs to be re-oxygenated.<\/p><p>If you have right heart failure, that means your right ventricle, (shown in blue in the animation), isn\u2019t working properly; your heart is unable to draw blood from your body and push it out to your lungs efficiently.\u00a0<\/p><p>Take a look at <strong>Your heart: The basics<\/strong> if you\u2019d like to know more about how your heart works.<\/p><p>In a normal heart, the right ventricle should be able to squeeze 50% to 75% of its blood out into the body with each contraction.\u00a0 In a failing heart, that percentage, which is called the ejection fraction, will be 40% or less.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood will tend to pool in your body and your legs and feet will swell. Anything that damages the heart or interferes with its ability to function can ultimately cause heart failure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Right heart failure<\/strong>, by itself (that is, not combined with left heart failure), is often caused by problems with your pulmonary (lung) circulation. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anything that increases the amount of fluid and pressure in your lung circuit and makes it difficult for your right ventricle to pump blood into your lungs can cause <strong>right heart failure.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The constant strain ultimately damages the right side of your heart.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disorders that cause pulmonary hypertension &#8211; high blood pressure in the vessels of your lungs &#8211; can greatly increase your risk of <strong>right heart failure<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Other lung problems that can lead to <strong>right heart failure<\/strong> include disorders like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-adbe527\" data-id=\"adbe527\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-191871c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"191871c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>However, most of the time, <strong>right heart failure<\/strong> develops as a result of long-term, severe left heart failure. This happens because, when you lie down, the extra fluid in your legs and feet moves back toward the middle of your body and your kidneys then get busy and try to remove it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common symptoms of <strong>right heart failure<\/strong> include:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swelling in the feet and legs<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty breathing, even with mild exercise<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rapid heartbeat<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chest
